Dora Kelley Nature Park: A Must-Visit Spot for Birdwatchers
September 30th, 2020
The cold days of winter will be here before you know it, and there’s no better time to get outdoors and enjoy a healthy dose of vitamin D before the mercury drops. One perfect place to soak it all in? Dora Kelley Nature Park, located on Sanger Avenue in Alexandria. There’s free parking when you arrive at the Jerome Buddie Ford Nature Center, which is located at the entrance to the area and serves as a jump-off point for all that the park has to offer. This is where you can find maps and brochures to guide your experience.
One of the most prominent features of the park is the birding. It’s consistently voted one of the best spots in the area to get out and get your birding on – perfect if you’re looking for a new hobby that will get you outside exploring. On any given day you can hit the trails and expect to see many of the over 69 species that were observed there last year alone. Make sure you have your binoculars ready!
