This time of year, it’s hard to resist the allure of a beautiful garden. Here in Alexandria, we’re lucky enough to have Winkler Botanical Preserve, “a secret garden” right here in NOVA. Amidst the urbanity of the city, the preserve offers a bit of natural respite. It offers the perfect spot for locals to escape the hustle and bustle of the DMV, enjoying the fresh spring air and the peaceful views Winkler has to offer.
Little ones will love the space to run and play, while grownups are sure to enjoy this calm corner of the city. Follow the trail to take in the views or stop to think, read, or share your photos from the day on Instagram. As one Yelp reviewer describes it, Winkler Botanical Preserve is “a cute hidden gem.” It may not be a massive expanse, but it has plenty to share. Come back through the seasons for an entirely different view of the park, or return once again to spot whatever you’ve missed. Even the simplest trip will give you something new, be it a beautiful bird or the perfect glimpse of the sun’s reflection on the water.
